Level Switches actuate an electric or pneumatic switch when the liquid in a tank reaches a certain level. They can be used to prevent complete emptying of a tank or liquid overflow.
There are different types, whose choice depends on the characteristics of the liquid and of the tank. The most common ones are the float or displacer type: a float or a displacer is magnetically coupled to a microswitch or to a pneumatic switch. They are very safe since the magnetic coupling prevents contact between the inside of the tank and the housing. They can be mounted directly in the tank at the top or on the side, or supplied with an external chamber that can also be opened to perform instrument maintenance.
Among other types we mention:
There are also level switches for solids (such as sand, cement or flour), for example Rotating Paddle Level Switches where a sensor stops rotating when immersed in a solid and this actuates an electric switch.
