Bicolor Level Gauges are used on boilers for steam generation at high temperature and pressure and uses the optical phenomenon of refraction.
The instrument consists of a steel body with transparent glasses and LED illuminators. The illuminators emit red and green light that passes through the fluid inside the body of the instrument. Due to the different refractive indices of water and steam and the particular geometry of the body of the instrument, the screen on the housing will appear red in the presence of steam and green in the presence of water.
